PADI SCUBA DIVER
If you don't have a lot of time but really want to become a diver, the PADI Scuba Diver level might be just the thing for you, especially if you think you'll dive mainly with a guide.
The PADI Scuba Diver course is a subset of the PADI Open Water Diver course.
If your ultimate goal is to achieve the Open Water Diver license, this course is an intermediate step.
PADI Scuba Diver are qualified to:
• Dive up to 12 meters / 40 feet under the direct supervision of a PADI professional.
• Obtain top-ups, rent or buy equipment and participate in underwater activities, provided they are adequately supervised.
• Continue the training by obtaining the PADI Open Water Diver license and enrolling in certain specialty courses.
To enroll in a PADI Scuba Diver course (or Junior Scuba Diver) you must be at least 10 years old. You must have adequate swimming skills and be in good health. No previous diving experience is required, but first you can do a test with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program.
The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of three main phases:
• Theoretical development (online, self-study or in the classroom) - To understand the basic principles of diving, only the first three of the five sections of the Open Water Diver course.
• Diving in confined water: to learn the basic diving skills, only the first three of the five dives of the Open Water Diver course.
• Free water dives - to use your skills and explore, only two of the four Open Water Diver course dives.
You will learn to use the basic equipment, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, BCD and a cylinder. The equipment you use will be different depending on whether you dive in tropical, temperate or cold waters. Your PADI Instructor will show you the equipment you need.
