NOSY KOMBA - Lemurs Island

Nosy Komba which means "the island surrounded by rocks" is the second main island Nosy Be archipelago.

It is the most populated island after Nosy Be with about 4000 inhabitants located only 15 minutes from Hell Ville by boat.

There are several fishing villages,is probably the most "modernized" of the islands surrounding Nosy Be, very touristy is known for hosting numerous lemurs considered sacred by the inhabitants of the island, you can also observe giant land turtles, python, chameleons and also local crafts carved from wood, colorful squares, finely embroidered tablecloths, colored and fragrant spices.

 

 

 

 


 

 

NOSY TANIKELY - Marine Park 

This reserve is an exceptional environment.

A spectacular coral reef, Nosy Tanikely is a true living aquarium in which you can observe a multitude of fish one more colorful than the other.

Sea turtles, stingrays, dolphins and even small harmless sharks. The island became a natural park in 2010 extends within a radius of 700 meters around its lighthouse.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOSY SAKATIA - Orchids Island

Located on the west coast of Nosy Be, you will find on the island an ecosystem preserved, protected and classified according to the wonders found there.

 

Postcard beaches, rare birds, endemic plants, are at the rendezvous and the locals will not fail to make you discover the island they are proud of.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 NOSY IRANJA

45 km south-west of Nosy Be, reachable in about an hour and a half by boat, Nosy Iranja consists in two small island: Nosy Iranja Be and Nosy Iranja Kely.

These two pieces of land are connected by an immaculate strip of sand of about 2 km.

Known as "the island of turtles" is a jewel that emerges from the emerald sea.

The barrier reef surrounding Nosy Iranja is very rich and hosts an incredible quantity of underwater flora and fauna species of the Mozambique Channel.

Sea turtles come to lay their eggs on Nosy Iranja during the high night tides. Sporadically you can assist at the wonderful ritual of laying the eggs or even see the small turtles leaving the nest and their race to reach the sea.

 

 

 

 

LOKOBE - Natural Reseve

In Nosy Be there is one of the last primary forests of Madagascar: Lokobe Nature Reserve.

Reachable in 30 minutes from Ambatozavavy aboard a pirogue on the river crossing mangrove forests and Ravinala (the traveler's tree), until you disembark at the fishing village of Ampasipohy and the tour begins.

Located in the southeast part of Nosy Be, Lokobe forest covers a mountain considered the highest peak on the island (450 meters above sea level), and occupies an area of 862 hectares. Lokobe means, in the Malagasy language, "many colors".

Different endemic species lives here, such as the world's smallest frog and chameleon, boa constrictor and nocturnal lemurs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

AMPASINDAVA - The Sacred Waterfall 

After a short walk between giant ferns and ylang-ylang, you will find yourself in front of this suggestive freshwater waterfall, whose waters flow into a pond.

Considered a sacred place for the Malagasy ethnic group by the Sakalavas, it's adorned with the characteristic red and white drapes, symbols of gold and silver. It is said that bathing in its water is a kind of blessing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MONT PASSOT

Mont Passot is one of the most visited places in Nosy Be with over 1500 visitors per month.

With an area of 329 mt above the sea level, the hill offers a 360 ° panoramic view from the suspended terrace where you can enjoy a splendid sunset on the island.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MAHATSINJO - The Sacred Tree 

A majestic ficus Benghalensis, covering an area of about 5000m2 and with its dense intertwining of branches, lianas and aerial roots, creates a maze with a diameter of 50m. The tree is adorned with red and white LAMBA, the colors of the Sakalava kingdom, which represent the two branches (North & South) of the royal family.

In 1837, Queen Sakalava fleeing the army of Queen Merina Ranavalona I, took refuge on the island of Nosy Be where the natives gave her a sprout of ficus Benghalensis as a gift. The site where it was planted, became a place of prayer, where to invoke the protection of ancestor spirits and offer rhum, honey and zebu horns as a thank you for the health and prosperity of your family.

 

 

 

 

 

HELL VILLE

Hell Ville, the capital of Nosy Be, where all the island's economic activities are concentrated.

Near the port, a few steps from the typical local boats dedicated to the transport of goods and merchandise, you can see the old colonial buildings while, in the various shops scattered along the main street there is the possibility of buying local handicrafts at a good price .

Hell Ville is home to the island's main market, where you can experience lively bargaining for the purchase of fruit, fish, meat and spices of all kinds such as expensive vanilla, famous for its excellent quality and ginger.
